About the Play: In this rich and moving Irish classic, drama and pathos mix with dark humor in a vivid depiction of Ireland's working-class life during a nasty civil war. Jack Boyle and his sidekick Joxer spend their jovial days drinking, carousing and skirting gainful employment. Juno Boyle, the strong-willed and long-suffering matriarch of the family, dreams of taking her children out of their squalid surroundings and into a better life. When they learn of an unexpected family inheritance, hopes rise and plans are hatched, only to be confronted by a harsh dose of reality.
